Tools Needed
Preparation is the key to changing a flat tire on your car, and the best way to stay ahead of the curve is to stock your Genesis model with the tools you need. The most essential part that you must have in your car is a spare tire. It must be kept at the proper level of inflation and cannot have any damage to it. You’ll also need a car jack to lift your vehicle during the process along with a lug wrench to remove the lug nuts that adhere the tire to the vehicle. While those are the basic items to place inside your trunk before traveling on I-410, you also want to keep a few others handy, like your car’s Owner’s Manual. That booklet will let you know where to place the jack and your tire’s needed PSI. Also, wheel wedges and a reflective vest are good to have for your safety. With all these items at hand, you’ll be ready to tackle this problem.
Starting to Change the Flat Tire
When your tire starts losing air while you roll down the road, you need to evaluate the situation. First, pull into the parking lot at a nearby place, like Martin Luther King Park, or another area that does not have a lot of traffic. Don your safety vest and determine if you can do this tire change or if you need help. If you’re not feeling confident or comfortable, call to have your car brought to our service center location so that we can directly help you with your flat tire. Otherwise, take out the parts and tools that we mentioned and get your Owner’s Manual from its storage area. Begin by removing the hubcap on your Genesis GV60 or G70 and then using the lug wrench to turn the lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen them just a bit. Next, use the information from the Owner’s Manual to correctly place the jack and then lift the car until several inches of open space is below the tire. Using the lug wrench, continue to turn the nuts to the left until you can remove them completely. Finally, remove the damaged tire.
Finishing the Process
With the flat tire out of the way, take your spare tire and mount it on the wheel assembly, sliding the component back until the bolts come through. Take the lug nuts and hand-tighten them by placing them on the bolts and turning them to the right several times. Once that’s finished, lower the vehicle until the tire is just slightly touching the asphalt below. From here, you’ll want to imagine a star-shaped pattern on the lug nuts and use that as the order to secure them. So, if you start on the bottom-most lug nut, you’ll skip over the one directly next to it for the piece beyond it. Tighten all the lug nuts in that order so that the tire is evenly fastened. Once you’ve finished, use the jack to finish bringing your Genesis model to the ground, and then try to tighten the lug nuts once again. Once finished, stow your items back in your car. Then, consult our Genesis Tire Center about repairing or replacing the flat tire.
